Theoretical analysis of the effect of a long-pin drum in a heavy impurity trap on the separation of stone particles from the cotton flow

Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical study of the motion of cotton flow and heavy impurities in a device equipped with a long-pin drum designed to remove stones and other heavy impurities from cotton. The interaction between the cotton flow entering the working chamber and the surface of the rotating long-pin drum is considered. The external forces acting on cotton particles and stone inclusions, as well as the main laws governing their motion, are analyzed. The rotational motion of the drum is described in a polar coordinate system, and the regularities of cotton flow movement along the drum surface and the conditions for separating heavy impurities are determined. The influence of the inclination angle and angular velocity of the long-pin drum on the motion characteristics of the cotton flow is investigated. Based on the developed mathematical model, graphs describing the variation of the distance traveled and the direction of cotton particle motion over time were obtained using Maple software. The results demonstrate that an appropriate selection of the structural and kinematic parameters of the long-pin drum can improve the efficiency of separating stones and other heavy impurities, ensure stable movement of the cotton flow, and provide its continuous transfer to the subsequent technological operation
